Is Trump's New Beginning Sustainable; Can He and MAGA Stay the Course (Keeping the World Company - recorded on 1/22/2025). The hosts for this show were Jay Fidell and Tim Apicella. The guests were Jean Rosenfeld and Manfred Henningsen.

The discussion was: President-elect Donald Trump’s Inaugural events showcased his vision of 'unity,' which he equates with broad support for his MAGA movement. In response to a reporter's question, Trump stated his focus would be on unity rather than the 'American carnage' theme of his 2017 Inaugural address. Trump emphasized the 2024 election’s success in bringing diverse demographics together under his Republican banner, dismissing those outside his coalition as less American.

On January 19 and 20, which coincided with MLK Day, Trump delivered three addresses. At a Washington, D.C., MAGA rally, he denounced the lawsuits and persecution he faced between his terms. During the formal indoor Inaugural ceremony, Trump presented a dualistic vision: a Golden Age of American greatness alongside a dire warning about threats from immigrants and criminal elements. He promised immediate action, including a state of emergency at the border, deployment of U.S. troops, and rapid signing of executive orders.

Afterward, Trump spoke informally to a loyal crowd, addressing immigration and the border wall, praising allies like Texas Governor Abbott. He vowed to restore traditional values, eradicate diversity initiatives, and reshape American politics through expansionist policies, such as renaming landmarks and asserting dominance globally.

Trump’s rhetoric also hinted at disunity within his MAGA movement, marked by a rift between Steve Bannon’s grassroots followers and Elon Musk’s tech elite. Bannon's populist vision conflicts with Musk’s meritocratic stance on immigration, creating a divide within Trump’s coalition. Speculation arose about Trump’s evolving persona, possibly influenced by Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged, as he cast himself as a libertarian savior.

Ultimately, Trump’s Inaugural addresses reflected his ambition to reshape America, though his ability to unify a fractured MAGA movement remains uncertain. The growing divide between Bannon’s base and Musk’s oligarchic vision poses a challenge to his leadership.

The takeaway was: With Trump's new beginning, we are in greater trouble than before. Although we can't return to the way it was before, we cannot give up on the republic. We must follow what he does and be part of the opposition that is forming around alternative media.
