Views from Venice Biennale 2025; From Island to Island / Lessons to Learn from Venice (Humane Architecture - recorded on 7/3/2025). The host for this show was Martin Despang. The guest was Jay Fidell.
The discussion was: Last episode from Vancouver this time from Venice. We keep sending out host Martin Despang as foreign correspondent this time to the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale with the Carlo Ratti created (curated?) theme of Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective. He shares his keynote as SHIFT’s symposium primarily answering Jay Fidell desperate questions of how to deal with being stuck with Honolulu’s ongoingly going up hermetic highrises he fears we are stuck with for centuries. Reconvening with the fellow Hannover bad boys Stefan Behnisch, Martin Haas, Thomas Auer they together with Martin Despang confess their youthful sins of bioclimatic architecture which became to technologically complicated in response encouraging and coaching the coming generations to uncomplicate their future. Above and beyond the confinement of the symposium and exhibits Martin shares the reunion with Think Tech Hawaii’s Urban Transcendence in person show guest Ulf Meyer and their additional referential reflections from island to island: Venice and Honolulu sharing so much : over-tourism, over pricing: driving out locals, overheating, drowning from sea water level rise … and potential intelligent, natural, artificial, collective ways out.
The takeaway was: Honolulu’s potential learning curve from Venice’s seeking for sheltering solutions via the Architectural Biennales
