No Kings Protest, 5 Million Showed up; Trump's $45M BDay Parade Fizzled (American Issues Take One - recorded on 6/18/2025). The hosts for this show were Tim Apicella and Jay Fidell. The guests were David Larson and Jeff Portnoy.
The discussion was: On Saturday, June 14 there were two different gatherings of Americans. One protested the that the 47th president is acting more king like than a president, hence the name of over 2000 events spread across America was labeled as 'No Kings' protests. Estimated participation across 50 states came in at 5 million. In Washington DC, Trump celebrated his 79th birthday ( under the PR cover of the 250th anniversary of the US Army). Over $45 million dollars was spent to hold the parade of military equipment and troops. Depending on what poll you look at, 64% of Americans stated it was a waste of tax dollars. 72% of Independents disapproved as did 88% of Democrats. Those GOP surveyed, 65% approved of the military parade and expense.
The panel will discuss the takeaway of these two events and connect the dots of how these types of events may influence the current administration.
The takeaway was: After months of little in the street protests in opposition to many executive orders signed by Trump, Americans are starting to react and speak out in the streets. Court decisions alone will not redirect the trajectory of Trump's authoritative approach to governance. Time will tell if protests across America will slow down Trump's urge to sidestep the law and provisions of the US Constitution.
