It's Not Just Leadership Changes of Military, DOJ, FBI, CIA; Nation's Security Being Undermined by Trump (American Issues Take One - recorded on 2/26/2025). The hosts for this show were Tim Apicella and Jay Fidell. The guests were Benjamin Davis and Jeff Portnoy.
The discussion was: Each president certainly has the prerogative to make leadership changes within federal agencies. The issue that those leadership changes appear to be based on loyalty or political ideology is problematic for those agencies which are designed to be free of political influence. Trump has fired scores of DOJ leaders, inspector generals, FBI leaders, military generals, military JAG personnel without consideration to experience of leadership. To what purpose has this political purge taken place? What impact will these terminations and replacements have on the nation's security and consolidation of power to the POTUS?
The takeaway was: Trump is replacing the expertise and competency of our military and law enforcement agencies with Trump loyalists. These loyalists have near zero experience to take on the task of leading those large organizations. Recently, DOGE's wrecking ball approach to cut federal costs resulted in terminations of employees critical to nuclear weapon systems safety and Bird Flu research. Attempts to rehire those employees are now underway. Our nation's security may well be comprised because of Trump's desire to consolidate his personal power and transform the role of the Office of President of the United States.
